Florence Foster Jenkins, Directed By Stephen Frears – Nominee, Best Motion Picture Comedy/Musical

In 1940s New York, millionaire heiress and music enthusiast Florence Foster Jenkins (Meryl Streep) decides to launch a singing career, even though she has a terrible voice. “It’s based on a real person”, our Cecil B. deMille recipient Meryl Streep told us. “In my mind she was so popular in the day (…) not because she sang badly (…) but because she sang badly with such hope and with so much joy…”  Meryl Streep was nominated in the Best Actress in a  Motion Picture- Comedy/Musical category alongside Hugh Grant, who plays Florence’s husband (Best Actor in a Motion Picture- Comedy/Musical) and Simon Helberg (Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture) who’s Florence’s long-suffering vocal coach.
