GUADALAJARA FESTIVAL OPENS WITH PLENTY OF PROMISE

The Guadalajara Film Festival has opened with the promise of some intriguing movies and events for festival-goers, including new works from such leading Mexican documentary makers as Juan Carlos Rulfo and Mercedes Moncada and the movie The Delay, from Rodrigo Pia, which will be shown in the Mexican feature narrative competition Several Hollywood Foreign Press Association members are among the journalists attending the festival, which is in its second year at the expansive Expo Guadalajara convention centre, having moved from the Hotel Fiestamericana at the city’s bustling Plaza Minerva. One of the attractions this year is a focus on British cinema featuring several new U.K. films and a spotlight on Mike Leigh, whose films are the subject of a nine-picture retrospective . The veteran filmmaker will also be giving a master class.
