On Music: Hailee Steinfeld – ‘Music Is My Fun, My Release’

Hailee Steinfeld, nominated for major awards at 13 for her performance as Mattie Ross in the Coen brothers' adaptation of True Grit, is back with the clever teenage comedy The Edge of Seventeen. This is also the title of the 1981 hit song  by Stevie Nicks. “I am a huge fan and I feel so cool to be in a movie by the same title” said the young actress who has also released her first EP while she was shooting the movie. How important is music for her?

“Music is my fun, my release, it’s everything. It’s always there for me. To be able to go into an music environment where it doesn’t matter what you look like or what you are wearing or who is around you…You can be vulnerable, talk about experiences, talk about what’s on your mind and not be judged by it. That environment being a recording studio with amazing people that I have had the honor of being surrounded by has really just been incredible to me. And again, music has always been such a huge part of my life and a part of me as an actor, that to be able to create it myself now is awesome.”
