Blanchett was first noticed in OSCAR AND LUCINDA (1997) by Australian director Gillian Armstrong, portrayed Queen Elizabeth in ELIZABETH (1998) by Shekhar Kapur and its sequel, ELIZABETH: THE GOLDEN AGE (2007), played Elf Queen Galadriel in THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy by Peter Jackson, reprised this role in THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY (2012), THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG (2013) and the upcoming THE HOBBIT: THERE AND BACK AGAIN (2014).
She was co-artistic director of the Sydney Theatre Company with husband Andrew Upton (2006-2013). Other notable credits THE TALENTED MR.
