One of the most accomplished and versatile actresses in Hollywood today, Amy Adams, who’s 44, has been nominated for nine Golden Globes, in both the lead and supporting categories and won two. Working at the peak of her abilities, this season she is a double Golden Globe nominee in two separate categories.

Amy Adams stars as the lead character of Camille in Sharp Objects, adapted for HBO from the book of the same title – the debut novel by Gillian Flynn. Flynn was of course nominated for a Best Screenplay Golden Globe for David Fincher’s Gone Girl.

Two-time Golden Globe winner Amy Adams trained as a ballerina but, at 18, found musical theater more to her liking. Music is in her blood - she had her breakthrough as a Disney Princess in the musical Enchanted.

At the peak of her career, Amy Adams is easily among the most accomplished actresses of her generation.  She is also one of the busiest and most versatile performers working today.

 In Denis Villeneuve’s existential sci-fi feature, Amy Adams plays Louise Brooks, a linguist recruited by the military to facilitate a dialogue with aliens. “It was really one of the best scripts I read”, Adams told us.

Veterans day weekend saw a sharp rise in box office returns across the board with Americans flocking to theaters, some in elation, some trying to find a distraction and relief from Tuesday’s revelation that the 45th president of the United States is Mr. Donald Trump.

The weekend arrives noisy and busy on the Lido. It's the ideal frame for parties, celebrations and assorted special events.

You could tell the first weekend was here by the loud music thumping from various Lido locales on Friday. On Day 3 the Venice Film Festival was definitely firing on all pistons with the competition featuring El Cristo Ciego by Chilean director Cristopher Murray, Frantz from French stalwart François Ozon, a disturbing documentary on big game hunting by Austrian Ulrich Seidl (Safari) and Tom Ford’s literary noir Nocturnal Animals  with Amy Adams, Jake Gyllenhall, Michael Shannon and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

The HFPA met with the lovely and ever charming Amy Adams following the screening of Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival in Venice. The actress is somewhat of the Lido Queen this year as she stars in two films, Arrival and Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals – not bad for a festival debut! Arrival was met with sustained applause in the Sala Grande and Amy told us it was an emotional moment for her.
