Since its 2013 first season, Rectify has been one of the best reviewed series on TV, emblematic of the kind of adult drama that has people talking about television’s new “golden age”. The storyline follows Daniel Holden (Aden Young) as he is released after spending 19 years on death row for the rape and murder of his 16-year-old girlfriend, Hanna. New DNA evidence exonerates him from the crime, but not in the minds of many of the folks in the small Southern town in which he he must try to reintegrate. Created by actor/writer/director Ray McKinnon, it was Sundance Channel’s first original series and has garnered critical accolades for the thoughtful pace with which it approaches its emotional – and by no means easy – subject matter. We talked about it with the Canadian-Australian star of the show, Aden Young.
