Janie Bryant on the Costumes of Mad Men

by HFPA June 7, 2014

Mad Men is wrapping up its seventh and final season with last episodes airing next year. At the risk of stating the obvious we can safely say that Mathew Weiner’s Golden Globe winning show has redefined television and left an indelible mark on the culture – to say nothing of style. The clothes worn by Don, Peggy, Joan and the other men and women of Sterling Cooper are integral a story that mines a seminal decade as well as a fundamental element of the Mad Men phenomenon. The style of Mad Men has influenced real world fashion – like in the apparel collection by Banana Republic inspired by the show.. All those amazing costumes are the work of Janie Bryant. The award-winning designer recently took the HFPA”s Katherin Tulich on a tour of the Mad Men style inner-sanctum - the fabled costumes department at Center Studios where her creations come to life – and spoke to her about the creative process behind TV’s best-dressed characters.
