Adam Sandler, Tilda Swinton, Dustin Hoffman, Greta Gerwig, Ted Sarandos and many others were on hand for the HFPA’s annual philanthropy event at Nikki Beach. Last year HFPA presented a grant to Film Aid. This year Jake Gyllenhaal helped HFPA president Lorenzo Soria present a $500.000 donation to the International Rescue Committee to aid in refugee assistance. “More people are currently displaced by wars today than during World War II” Lorenzo reminded the audience “and the IRC is doing critical work in assisting these families.” IRC regional director for Europe, Elinor Raikes was on hand to accept the contribution, which she said “would go a long way in assisting those individuals and families seeking safety on these shores.” “I feel the work done by the IRC is extraordinary,” remarked Gyllenhaal, “especially today in this geopolitical climate and with so many refugees throughout the world needing a place to stay and needing help.”
