For decades director Luc Besson has been trying to bring to the big screen one of the favorite comic books of his childhood – the French series Valérian et Laureline, written by Pierre Christin and drawn by Jean-Claude Mézières. 50 years after the first chapter of the saga was published, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets lands in theaters everywhere, with Dale DeHaan as space and time traveling agent Valerian and Cara Delevingne as his partner Laureline – and, as the DeHaan says in this exclusive interview, “the brains of the operation”. HFPA’s own Katherine Tulich, with Mirai Konichi behind the camera, talked to Besson, DeHaan, and Delevingne about this baroque space opera.
