NewFilmmakers Los Angeles is an organization dedicated to showcasing works by emerging filmmakers from around the world, providing the city’s community of entertainment professionals with a steady stream of monthly screenings. With the goal of promoting, supporting and connecting emerging filmmakers, NFMLA provides a forum where filmmakers can be recognized for their contributions, discuss their projects and connect with industry professionals to further their budding careers.
NFMLA is headquartered at Sunset Gower Studios, a 14-acre television, and movie studio established in 1912, which continues today as Hollywood's largest independent studio and an active facility for television and film production on its twelve soundstages. Because of NewFilmmakers Los Angeles residency on the lot, they have access to some of the top film and TV professionals. The lot and their owner, Hudson Pacific Properties, sponsor NewFilmmakers Los Angeles, which greatly reduces the organizations overhead, helping them to allocate most of their funding to program services.Over the next 10 years, they plan to continue investing in global independent filmmakers by increasing opportunities for these emerging artists. The organization hopes to expand opportunities for the general public to experience works by global independent filmmakers while also increasing the number of resources and educational programs offered to emerging filmmakers. The ultimate goal in the next 10 years is to open a facility that would house a theater, workshop space, production meeting room, equipment to loan and more. They also provide educational and development opportunities for its alumni. There is frequent outreach from them to program participants and upon completing the program, they secure surveys to assess the program’s success from every participant.
They host monthly programs of independent international cinema and have 14 events during the year, 12 film festivals plus two other annual events.
