Trending: A Twist on Classic Black Dress Wins Big on the Red Carpet

The Golden Globes is one of the first stops on a long ride known as awards season, and Sunday night’s (January 12) destination was Glam Central Station.
While the looks were everything you would imagine coming from Hollywood’s elite, it was the classic, not the trendy, that reigned supreme on the red carpet. From head to hem, one star after another was seen sporting the most decadent of shades — black. While the hue is often refereed to as a “basic,” tonight’s offerings were anything but.

Amy Poehler: Not only did she take the stage as the show’s co-host, Amy was also nominated for her role in “Parks & Recreation.” The funny lady showed up to the event in a figure-flattering Stella McCartney frock, Karla Welch for Jacob and Co. cuff, Rauwolf clutch, and Jacob and Co. earrings.
Cate Blanchett: The “Blue Jasmine” actress took it to a whole new level in a lace Armani Couture number with a cutout backside. Complete with flawless detailing, Cate’s mermaid silhouette was nothing short of stunning.
Sofia Vergara: She may have thought she was wearing a “tent,” but we think the Colombian beauty was the picture of perfection. Sporting a cinched bust and waist, the rest of Vergara’s delivered a fairytale-like ballgown. Complete with aqua jewels, Sofia’s look was a welcome departure from her usual frame-hugging choices.
Emma Roberts: This bride-to-be nailed her current walk down the aisle. Channeling her inner Tinseltown royalty, the recently-engaged celeb opted for an impeccable Lanvin gown, which she paired with Neil Lane, Chopard and Jennifer Meyer gems, Charlotte Olympia shoes and a complementary Kotur bag.
Jessica Chastain: She’s a red carpet favorite, and the always-fashionable redhead didn’t disappoint in her timeless Givenchy pick tonight.. To accent her sweetheart neckline, Chastain chose a Bvlgari sparkler that is sure to make a mark for show’s to come.
Camila Alves: The beauty of this woman goes much deeper than any garment, however, Camila’s sequin Dolce & Gabbana sheath did nothing but add to her exotic appeal. While the frock featured a high cute and long sleeves, the silhouette showcased the brunette’s sexy curves.
Zoe Saldana: When you have a body like Zoe, you can wear just about anything the style world has to offer, but when you’re BFFs with Prabal Gurung, it’s a no-brainer. The brunette bombshell accessorized her embellished, knee-length frock with Christian Louboutin shoes, a Bottega Veneta clutch, and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.
Julia Roberts: The long-time Hollywood superstar has always been know for her quirky red carpet picks, but this time she opted to go vintage glam. The “August: Osage County” nominee made her entrance with a with a floor-length, black Dolce & Gabbana gown that featured a white, tailored menswear shirt and a shimmering silver belted belt. She paired her getup with an extra-volumized bouffant bun, Christian Louboutin shoes, and Harry Winston jewels.
Uma Thurman: In shimmering-perfection, the sparkle on Uma’s Atelier Versace gown was rivaled only by her Chopard diamond bracelet and chandelier earrings. This glimmering noir frock highlighted a high-neck haltered silhouette, a delicate train, and head-to-toe Swarovski-embroidered crystals — can you say eye-blinding?!
