The Big Day is around the corner (Sunday, January 10 Live on NBC at 5:00 PM, 8:00 ET). We asked some of the people that have celebrated with us in the past, what some of their memories are of the Golden Globes.

A magic and moving moment: In 1990, when Audrey Hepburn, now devoting most of her time to her mission as a Goodwill Ambassador for Unicef, receives her Cecil B. deMille statuette, the second of her special awards, after nine Golden Globes nominations and only one win.

“I did expect this and if I hadn’t won, I would have cramped. ” It is January 28, 1984, at the 31st Annual GG and in the grand ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel; Shirley MacLaine has just grabbed the Golden Globe she won for Terms of Endearment.

The Seventies. You first might have flashes of a psychedelic era, rampant anti-establishment feeling, and the Vietnam War.

The last years of the 20th Century are expansive times - optimism reigns, hair is big and shoulders are strong. All the while, in silence at first, the terrible AIDS scourge wreaks havoc in the industry, cutting a path of destruction through friendships, families, and entire cities.

It is January 22nd, 1954 at the Club del Mar in Santa Monica and Marilyn Monroe, radiant in a tight gown with plunging neckline, is all smiles as she holds her cumbersome Henrietta Award statuette (named after the then-president Henry Gris). She has been voted the World Film Favorite at the 11th Golden Globes.

Launched in February of 1944 with an informal luncheon at 20th Century Fox Studios ( the winners received a scroll), the Golden Globes began finding their true style in the 1950s, hopping from Hollywood to Beverly Hills, then on to the Cocoanut Grove of the famous Ambassador Hotel, Casa del Mar in Santa Monica and Ciro's on the Sunset Strip. War was over, Hollywood was spreading its wings around the world and the Globes quickly began the best party of the year in a city that absolutely loves parties - Los Angeles.
