In celebration of Pride Month we give a shout out to a few of our many LGBTQ+ Golden Globe nominees and winners from 80 years of paying homage to the best in Entertainment. They have been an inspiration to many, both on and off screen - and also on the red carpet.

Anything's Possible is not only the title of Billy Porter's new film, it might as well be the motto for this year's Outfest Event. This wonderful HFPA-grantee proved once again that they know how to advance the most diverse filmmakers and put on quite a show, too.

To celebrate its 40th anniversary, Outfest, one of the world’s largest and most prestigious LGBTQ+ film festivals, turned to Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award winner (and Golden Globe nominee) Billy Porter to kick off the ruby anniversary of the cinematic showcase. How apropos that that gemstone’s dazzling deep red hue is the perfect symbol of not only burning love, which seemed to fill the air at L.

It wasn’t all that long ago in the history of Hollywood that the LGBTQ community represented in front of the camera had to adhere to the strict Hays Code, which remained in place for three decades (1934 to 1968). It was a self-imposed industry guideline set up to prevent any explicit depictions of homosexuality in film.

It takes a flamboyant, talented Billy Porter to inhabit a character like Pray Tell, the colorful and matriarchal emcee of the drag balls in New York, and mentor to members of the community, especially the members of the House of Evangelista in the Ryan Murphy TV series, Pose. The 52-year-old actor-singer-author from Pittsburgh, who was included in Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2020, got two Golden Globe nominations in the past for his portrayal of Pray Tell in Pose – in 2019 and 2020 for Best Actor in a Television Series – Drama.

In his 30-year career, Billy Porter has tackled a wide range of roles in television, movies, and theater. The trailblazing actor, singer, and activist garnered two Golden Globe nominations for his portrayal of Pray Tell in FX’s groundbreaking drama Pose, the LGBTQ+ icon has also won a number of noteworthy awards, including a Tony, a Grammy and a Primetime Emmy.

As we run up to the Golden Globe announcements carried live on NBC on January 5, 2020, we are showcasing some of our nominees in their red-carpet moments. Fashion is an expression of creativity and Billy Porter, nominated this year in the Best Actor in a Television Series category (Pose), showcases that men can be dynamic on the red carpet if they only allow themselves to be.
