The red carpet was full of black and white - why this classic color reinvents itself annually and is always in fashion and a favorite of stylists. A make-up trend may be blossoming - and there was just a hint of color.

PaleyFest LA, which showcases buzzworthy TV shows, aptly concluded this year with one of the most popular, Emily in Paris. After screening an exclusive clip from the show, the creator and cast members participated in an interactive Q & A panel with the festival attendees, which was moderated by People magazine’s Janine Rubenstein at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.

Sex and the City and Younger creator Darren Star is back with another female-centric comedy, Emily in Paris which stars Lily Collins as a young confident Chicago marketing executive who is hired to provide her perspective at a marketing firm in Paris. Of course, her French counterparts are not the least impressed by what they see as her brash upfront ideas, so this particular American in Paris has to navigate her way in a new city and new culture.

At age 6 costume designer Patricia Field knew her future was entwined with fashion, touting her favorite cowgirl outfit that included “a miniskirt, boots, a hat and a gun in a holster. ” Many will look at her subsequent costumes in shows like creator/writer/producer Darren Star’s new Netflix series Emily In Paris, (they also collaborated on Sex and the City), and her work on The Devil Wears Prada and recognize the themes of miniskirts and boots that are de rigueur amongst the fashion-forward today.

Lily Collins, the Audrey Hepburn look-alike, stars in Netflix’s Emily in Paris, costumed in Patricia Field’s brand of fashion best epitomized in Sex and the City. It was a big week on the red carpet, and the overall trend was white and black. The silhouette, either soft or strong, took center stage, and soft blue and pink started making statements.

You could say that Lily Collins, who was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance as Marla Mabrey in Warren Beatty’s Rules Don’t Apply last year, has always been precocious. She studied broadcast journalism at USC, wrote for Seventeen, Teen Vogue and the LA Times before pursuing a modeling and acting career.
