Michael Douglas received the Honorary Palme d'Or at the opening ceremony of the 76th Cannes Film Festival. Later, he spoke to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association about his special relationship to foreign countries.

Legendary actor Michael Douglas will be on hand at the Cannes Film Festival to receive the prestigious Honorary Palme d’Or. To commemorate the Golden Globe and Oscar-winning actor-producer’s career, the documentary Michael Douglas, The Prodigal Son, will be presented at the festival on May 14 and May 16.

The 45th Golden Globes were held on January 23, 1988, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Besides honoring the best in film and television from 1987, the night was a source of fashion statements and celebrity news.

In 1984 Michael Douglas talked to the journalists of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association about Kathleen Turner, his costar in Romancing the Stone directed by Robert Zemeckis as well as in the sequel Jewel of the Nile (1985) and The War of the Roses (1989) directed by Danny DeVito. “Kathleen was actually suggested by Joe Wizan, president of 20th Century Fox Studios, who had remembered her from The Man With Two Brains.

Considering the frisson that Paul Verhoeven created with his 2021 Cannes entry, the erotic/religious drama Benedetta, it would be appropriate to recall another shock by the Dutch enfant terrible - Basic Instinct, in competition in 1992. The film had already stirred controversy in the US - it had opened in March -, with critics panning the picture -according to Roger Ebert, "just a worthless scrap with the spaces filled in"- and gay activists loudly protesting the movie with signs saying "Hollywood Promotes Anti-Gay Violence".

Beginning in 1952 when the Cecil B.  deMille Award was presented to its namesake visionary director, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has awarded its most prestigious prize 66 times.

On stage at the 33rd Golden Globes, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Saturday, January 24, 1976, producer Michael Douglas accepts a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture-Drama for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, from presenter Gena Rowlands. His father Kirk Douglas had bought the rights to the 1962 novel by Ken Kesey and produced it in 1963 as a musical play on Broadway, playing the title role that Jack Nicholson would play in the movie version.

The TCM Classic Film Festival, launched in 2010, was held for the eighth year in Hollywood, April 6 to 9, 2017. Crowds of movie lovers of all ages lined up to watch their favorites films on the big screen at the Chinese, Egyptian and Arclight theaters and they gathered for social events at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.
