In 2019, Carol Burnett, already a winner of five Golden Globes out of 17 nominations, was the recipient of the first Carol Burnett Award for Achievement on television, that was named after her. A TV special, Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter + Love, will air on April 26, her 90th birthday.

John Singleton was honored with a tribute during the 2022-2023 Academic year by USC (University of Southern California), his alma mater, where he developed the script for his 1991 directing debut, Boyz n the Hood, while attending the screenwriting program at USC’s Film School (the school has since been renamed the School of Cinematic Arts, or SCA). For this film, Singleton was nominated for two Academy Awards in 1992 for Best Director and Best Screenplay.

The journalists of the Hollywood Foreign Press first interviewed promising young actor Josh Hartnett in May 2001 when he acted with Ben Affleck in Pearl Harbor, directed by Michael Bay: they met him again in December 2001 to talk about Black Hawk Down, directed by Ridley Scott, the story of a 1993 US military raid in Mogadishu, Somalia. Hartnett gave his thoughts on war and the question of military intervention in other countries – a theme certainly relevant today in light of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Jessica Lange, winner of five Golden Globes for her acting out of 16 nominations, received a special award as Best Acting Debut in a Motion Picture for King Kong (1976), won as Best Supporting Actress for Tootsie (1982) directed by Sydney Pollack starring Dustin Hoffman, was nominated as Best Actress in a drama for Frances (1982).   She talked to the journalists of the Hollywood Foreign Press in 1982 about playing actress Frances Farmer.

Ellen Barkin received a Golden Globe nomination as Best Actress – Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy in 1992 for Switch, written and directed by Blake Edwards from the 1959 play by George Axelrod, Goodbye Charlie. She spoke to the journalists of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in 1991 about playing a dead man reincarnated in a woman’s body as punishment for his misogynist behavior, and forced to confront his past from a different perspective.

 Sally Field won a Golden Globe as Best Actress in a drama in 1980 for Norma Rae, directed by Martin Ritt, after having won Best Actress at the 1979 Cannes Film Festival and before winning an Academy Award for that performance. She would win a second Golden Globe followed by an Oscar in 1985 for Places in the Heart by Robert Benton.

Danny Huston, a Golden Globe nominee for his acting, was only 25 years old when he made his feature film debut directing Mr. North with a script written by his father, John Huston, from the 1973 novel Theophilus North by Thornton Wilder.

Eddie Murphy, the 2023 recipient of the Cecil B. deMille award at the 80th Golden Globes, had won Best Supporting Actor in 2007 for Dreamgirls, directed by Bill Condon from the 1981 stage musical.

Christina Ricci played Wednesday, the daughter of Anjelica Huston as Morticia and Raul Julia as Gomez, in The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values (1993) directed by Barry Sonnenfeld. She has a supporting role in Wednesday, the 8-part television series directed by Tim Burton, also based on the cartoon series by Charles Addams.

Claire Danes, a four- time Golden Globe winner, played Juliet opposite Leonardo DiCaprio as Romeo in the movie version of the Shakespeare tragedy directed by Baz Luhrmann Romeo + Juliet (1996). The young actress talked about that experience with the journalists of the Hollywood Foreign Press during an exclusive 1996 interview when she was 17 years old.
