Chaim Topol

Chaim Topol (born in Tel Aviv, Palestine, September 9, 1935, died March 9, 2023) was an Israeli actor and baritone singer. He won a special award as Star of Tomorrow at the 1965 Golden Globes for the movie Sallah Shabati (1964) produced by Menachen Golan, that won as Best Foreign film. He played Tevye the Dairyman in the movie version of the musical Fiddler on the Roof (1971) directed by Norman Jewison, a role he had first performed on stage in 1966. He played the title role in Galileo (1975) directed by Joseph Losey from the 1943 play by Bertold Brecht. He appeared in Flash Gordon (1980) and the Bond movie starring Roger Moore For Your Eyes Only (1981). On television Topol acted in the miniseries The Winds of War (1983) and Queenie (1987).
