Fashion is fun and fantasy, and some of the fantasy is that many of the looks we embrace hold a different standard for men and women. Not only ageism, warmth, but comfort too. On cold wet nights, women wear hardly anything, while men have trousers, shirts and jackets. Men climb stairs, and stand for hours in comfy flat shoes, while women teeter in heels. Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman shines a light on unconscious and conscious bias. The #Timesup movement is starting to broaden discussion so it’s safe to have conversations about things that everyone knows, but no one ever talks about.
