“Baby Driver”: Edgar Wright covering New Ground

Edgar Wright made his name directing smart irreverent comedies that pushed gender boundaries with longtime collaborators Nick Frost and Simon Pegg. Now after Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End he’s back with a “solo” project: Baby Driver is an action thriller starring Ansel Engort as the titular getaway driver pressed into service by Doc (Kevin Spacey) and his gang of bank robbers. Lily James is the girl that falls for him. It is also that rare animal: an original studio action picture, which is not based on pre-existing material. The HFPA’s Simon Brent spoke to the director and his young stars about the film.
