Greta Gerwig on “Lady Bird”

by Luca Celada November 16, 2017

Starring past Golden Globe nominee Saoirse Ronan, Lady Bird, Greta Gerwig’s (also nominated, in 2014 for her role in Frances Ha) directorial debut is a coming of age story set in the artist’s native Sacramento, California. A deft and heartfelt portrayal of the fraught transition between girlhood and adult life with all the doubt, self-exploration and attending emotional turmoil of impending separation from family and childhood. Poignant and poetic, it marks the emergence of a new, distinctly female authorial voice. We spoke to the director.
