The 1960s were by many measures the decade that changed the world– and the movies changed with it. As protests raged against glaring injustice and the younger generations tried to reimagine a better future, the counterculture spilled into the streets and behind the cameras. Old ways were challenged and so were the Hollywood studios. The seeds were being planted for the rise of new generation of American auteurs, the “Raging Bulls and Easy Riders” as Peter Biskind famously dubbed them, who rose in the next decade. The 60s were a time of transition and the Globes recorded that evolution: winners those years include Ben-Hur as well as The Graduate, vastly different cinema side by side. Other movies recognized by the Globes in those years included Becket, The Lion in Winter, Doctor Zhivago, My Fair Lady ,Tom Jones, Spartacus, In The Heat of The Night, Lawrence of Arabia...
