Nominee Profile 2020: Jennifer Lopez, “Hustlers”

Jennifer Lopez, who first stole our hearts when she starred as the late Tejano music star Selena Quintanilla-Perez in her breakout movie Selena, is making waves again. This time as Ramona Vega, a veteran stripper in the Lorene Scafaria-helmed crime drama which J. Lo went to strip clubs and talked to the dancers. “I learned a lot from the girls,” she said. “I love observing and I talked to a lot of the girls. So it was just good to observe the atmosphere of the club when I went there a few times. Some said they were proud of their body, others said they were single moms or were in college, while some said it was like an addiction or like going to a casino. Sometimes you make $40 a night, sometimes you go home with $5,000. So that was an interesting mindset for Ramona.”As for her pole dancing scenes, she revealed, “It was fun to learn. It was difficult. It was hard.  I was much bruised and very beat up by it. I had huge bruises all over my legs and my shoulders. I had to train a lot, even in the gym to gain upper and core strength.”On her similarities with her character Ramona, J. Lo disclosed, “The good things about her are similar to some ways that I am. I am maternal. I like to take care of everybody on the set, make sure they are okay, especially when I am a producer. I like to create that atmosphere.
