HFPA Co-Sponsors Press Freedom Week

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) in partnership with The Los Angeles Times is hosting the inaugural LA Press Freedom Week in Los Angeles. A series of panels will examine issues of freedom of the press as they face unprecedented challenges around the world from both totalitarian regimes and from the rising tide of populist attacks. The first discussion, at the Paley Center for Media, touched on Press Freedom and Elections. Moderated by the HFPA’s Ramzy Malouki the panel was comprised of Kathleen Carroll (Chair of the Board, Committee to Protect Journalists), Maria Ressa (CEO, Rappler), Terry Tang (Deputy Op-Ed Editor, Los Angeles Times) and Blanka Zöldi (Investigative Journalist, Direkt 36). They discussed the challenges for journalists and threats to press freedom and democracy that emerge around elections both globally and in the United States. Take a look.
