Golden Globe Moment: Joel Grey and Diana Ross, 1973

At the 30th Golden Globes, held Sunday, January 28, 1973, at the Century Plaza Hotel, Joel Grey wins Best Supporting Actor for the musical Cabaret, directed by Bob Fosse and starring Liza Minnelli.

Diana Ross, nominated for Best Actress drama for playing Billie Holliday in Lady Sings the Blues, wins Most Promising Newcomer. This special award had many names through the years, such as Best Acting Debut and Star of Tomorrow.  It was called New Star of the Year from 1980 to 1983 when it was discontinued.

Joel Grey is the father of actress Jennifer Grey, who was nominated for a Golden Globe as Best Actress for Dirty Dancing (1987) with Patrick Swayze.
