French Box Office, August 19th, 2022

One Piece Film – Red is the new number 1 in France. Directed by Goro Taniguchi with Stephane Excoffier, Mayumi Tanaka, and Marie Braam, this animated movie is about Luffy and his crew  – they are about to attend an eagerly awaited music festival in which the daughter of the legendary pirate Shanks Le Roux will reveal her exceptional voice power, capable of changing the world. For the first week, the movie grossed $3,336,055.

Bullet Train dropped to 2nd place. Directed by David Leitch with Brad Pitt, Joey King, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bullet Train is an action comedy about five assassins aboard a fast-moving bullet train who find out their missions have something in commonThis week, the movie grossed $1,816,774 reaching a total of $4,425,315.

Nope is another new movie at the French box office, opening in 3rd place. Directed by Jordan Peele with Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, and Steven Yeun, the movie is about the inhabitants of a lost valley in the depths of California who witness a terrifying supernatural discovery. The movie grossed $1,303,289.

Minions: The Rise of Gru is at 4th place. Directed by Kyle Balda, Brad Ableson, and Jonathan del Val, the movie is about a twelve-year-old’s dream to become the world’s greatest supervillain. This week the movie grossed $1,238,282 reaching a total of $21,457,186.

Thor: Love and Thunder dropped from 2nd. to 5th slot at the box office in France. Directed by Taika Waititi with Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Christian Bale, the movie is about Thor fighting Gorr the God Butcher who intends to make the gods extinct. This week, the movie grossed $1,147,390 reaching a total of $17,966,360.      

The animated movie DC League of Super-Pets dropped to 6th place. Directed by Jared Stern and Sam Levine, the animated movie is about the new adventure of the super dog Krypto who must master his powers for a rescue mission when his best friend Superman is kidnapped. The movie grossed $1,110,450 reaching out a total of $4,773,161.

Top Gun: Maverick dropped from 5th to 7th at the box office. Directed by Joseph Kosinski with Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, and Jennifer Connelly, this sequel is about Pete “Maverick” Mitchell who continues to push his limits as a test pilot and in charge of training a detachment of young graduates from the Top Gun school for a special mission that no pilot would have ever imagined. The movie grossed $1,047,816 reaching out a total of $43,312,658.

The new French comedy La très très grande classe premiered at 8th place. Directed by Frédéric Quiring with Melha Bedia, Audrey Fleurot,  and François Berléand, La très très grande classe is about the misadventure of a teacher who hoped to leave her terrible class to join a better school and discovers that another more qualified teacher is going to take her place. In its first week, the movie grossed $915,727.

French comedy Ducobu Président ! dropped to 9th place. Directed by Elie Semoun, with Elie Semoun, Émilie Caen, and Gabin Tomasino, the movie is about Ducobu starting the new school year and trying to be elected the student president. For this week, the movie grossed $565,790 reaching out a total of $6,422,677.

Another French comedy, Menteur, dropped from 7th to 10th place. Directed by Olivier Baroux with Tarek Boudali, Artus, and Pauline Clément, the movie is about the adventures of a man called Jerome who never stops lying but one day all his lies are becoming real. The movie grossed $479,741 reaching a total of $5,321,870.
